What your record says to emphasise

You get the main calculation, but sometimes stop before converting it into the return measure the question asks for.

  • Geometric mean. 13.6% was the three-year cumulative return. The annual mean still needed the cube root.
  • Continuous compounding. 30.00% was the holding-period return. The log return still needed ln.
  • Required return. 11.0% added the raw risk premia without weighting each one by its exposure.
  • Exact excess return. 7.00% used the subtraction shortcut, not the growth-factor ratio.

Try three CFA Level 1 practice questions

A short CFA Level 1 practice test: Level I exam questions have three answer choices, and so do these. All three come from Quizara's free study guides and sit in Quantitative Methods, the subject the free trial opens. Pick an answer to see the working.

  1. Question 1 · Mean returns

Which constant annual return takes $100 to $96 over two years?

Read the guide: Arithmetic vs geometric mean return
  2. Question 2 · Sharpe ratio

Portfolio C earns 9% with 7% volatility; D earns 12% with 20% volatility. The risk-free rate is 1%. Which has the higher Sharpe ratio?

    Read the guide: Sharpe ratio
  3. Question 3 · Coefficient of variation

C has mean return 10% and standard deviation 5%. D has mean return 15% and standard deviation 6%. Which has the lower coefficient of variation?

Read the guide: Coefficient of variation

In the course, you practise a whole Module or one Topic at a time, and every finished run is saved so you can reopen any question and reread its reasoning. The free trial opens all of Quantitative Methods.

How long should I study for CFA Level 1?

Ask AI starts from the Lesson step, the Study Notes passage or the question in front of you, and answers with Quizara's course content. It does not show answers to questions you have not answered yet.

What happens when the free trial ends?

Nothing is charged, because the trial needs no card. To keep studying all ten subjects, choose Premium; the plan cards on this page show the current price.

Is Quizara an official CFA Institute course?
